Planstin administers a range of health plans that provide minimum essential coverage (MEC) or minimum value coverage (MVP). This means that you can confidently avoid the costly Employer Shared Responsibility Penalty Part A or B.

The health plans we work with are also flexible and can be tailored to meet your specific needs. So, whether you're looking for a plan that manages basic medical needs or one that provides more comprehensive care, Planstin has you covered.

ACA (Affordable Care Act)

A federal law that sets standards for healthcare coverage and requires most businesses to offer coverage to employees, or face penalties. Planstin helps you figure out if the rules apply to your business and makes it easy to stay compliant.

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)

This act sets privacy rules for handling health information. Planstin ensures your benefits comply with HIPAA standards, protecting your business and your team’s private information.

A document that, once set up, allows employees to pay for benefits with pre-tax dollars through paycheck deductions. Planstin sets up and manages these plan so businesses can offer smarter, tax-efficient options.

ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act)

A federal law that sets the rules for how benefits must be handled. Planstin keeps your plans ERISA-compliant by handling documents, filings, and plan setup so you don’t risk fines or other complications.

TiC (Transparency in Coverage)

This rule requires health plans to show what things cost. Planstin handles the data-sharing and posting requirements as necessary, so your business stays on track with federal guidelines.

COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act

A federal law that lets employees keep their workplace benefits for a limited time after leaving their job. Planstin takes care of the required paperwork for you so you stay compliant.

The CAA adds new rules about surprise billing, broker compensation, and more. Planstin helps clients stay in the clear with reporting, tracking, and up-to-date plan support.

RxDC (Prescription Drug Data Collection)

Part of the CAA, this rule requires detailed reporting on prescription costs. Planstin gathers and submits the required data so you don’t have to worry about making mistakes or missing deadlines.

NSA (No Surprises Act)

This law protects employees from unexpected bills-but creates new compliance needs for businesses. Planstin works behind the scenes to make sure your plan follows the rules and avoids penalties.

PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute Fee):

This annual fee supports health research and applies to many self-funded plans. Planstin calculates this for you to make filing easy.

What is the employer shared responsibility penalty?

Employers with more than 50 full-time, or full-time equivalent, employees must offer MEC-compliant health plans to full-time employees and their dependents, or face a tax penalty. This Employer Shared Responsibility Penalty (Section 4980H-Part A) is equal to $2,900 (2025) for every full-time employee after the first 30—even if those employees have coverage from another source.

A second type of Employer Shared Responsibility Penalty (Section 4980H-Part B) may apply to employers who offer MEC plans that are not minimum value plans (MVP). This penalty is $362.50 (2025) per month for each full-time employee who receives subsidized coverage through the marketplace. However, this penalty is only assessed per employee who receives tax subsidized insurance (not every full-time employee) and cannot exceed the first penalty.
